Cookie Policy

Definitions, characteristics and application of the legislation
Cookies are small text files that the websites visited by users send to and store on your computer or mobile device, where they are retransmitted to the same websites when the user visits the site again.
It is thanks to cookies that a website “remembers” the actions and preferences of the user (such as, for example, login information, selected language, size of the characters, other display settings, etc.) so that this information does not have to be given again when the user returns to visit the same site or navigates between pages. Cookies, therefore, are used to perform information authentication, monitoring of sessions and storage of information concerning the activities of users that access a site, and they may also contain a unique identifier that keeps track of the user’s browsing activities inside the website for statistical or advertising purposes. While browsing on a site, the user may receive on his/her computer cookies from websites or web servers other that the one he/she is visiting (so-called third-parties cookies). Certain operations might not be possible without the use of these cookies, which in certain cases are technically necessary for functioning of the website.
There are types of cookies that vary according to their characteristics and functions, and these may remain on the computer for differing periods of time: so-called session cookies, which are automatically deleted on closing the browser; so-called persistent cookies, which remain on the user’s device until a predetermined expiry date.
According to current legislation in Italy, to use cookies the express consent of the user is not always required. In particular, no consent is required for “technical cookies”, which are those cookies used for the sole purpose of transmitting a communication over an electronic communication network, or to the extent strictly necessary to provide a service explicitly requested by the user. In other words, these are cookies that are indispensable for website functioning or necessary to carry out the activities requested by the user.

Among the technical cookies that do not require express consent for their use, the Italian Authority guaranteeing Protection of Personal Data, (see Provision for Identification of simplified methods for the privacy policy and acquiring of consent for the use of cookies dated 8 May 2014 and subsequent clarifications, hereinafter "Provision") also includes:

  • "analytics cookies" where used directly by the website manager for gathering information in aggregated form on the number of users and on how these users visit the site,
  • navigation or session cookies (for authentication),
  • functionality cookies, which allow the user to browse according to a series of selected criteria (e.g. language, products selected for purchase) to improve the service provided to the same.

Instead, for "profiling cookies", i.e. those cookies whose aim is to create user profiles that are used to send advertising messages according to their preferences expressed by them while browsing on line, the prior consent of the user is requested.

These cookies are indispensable for the correct functioning of the website and the prior consent of users is not requested for their installation.
